Minerva Cycling Team will make its debut on Wednesday in the Trofeo Calvia, one of the five preliminary races of the Challenge Mallorca. This first race will take place between Peguera and Palmanova (154.7 km). The Spanish island will offer the riders a hilly course.

A number of other races such as the Tour Down Under and the Vuelta a San Juan will not take place this year due to the well known reason of Covid-19. This results in a strong field of participants in the Challenge Mallorca with the presence of 10 UCI WorldTour Teams.

Thomas Joseph:

"These five races of the Challenge Mallorca will be a good preparation for what is coming. The level will be high due to the presence of WorldTour teams with strong riders at the start. We must not immediately think in terms of results even though we can surprise here and there with the young team we have. It is important to gain publicity in these races by possibly going in an early breakaway. In any case, the races will be a good training work.

In the training period before these races we have already done some solid, quality training rides. You notice that the atmosphere in this young group is good.

I feel that my condition is on the rise after I had side effects from my booster vaccine at the beginning of this month."

Preben Van Hecke (sports director):

"This Challenge Mallorca is the start of a beautiful thing. The riders have been able to train well in excellent conditions. Of course we are aware that we are not of the same calibre as a WorldTour Team. We will try to get our U-23 riders to the finish as good as possible. They will be supported per race by guys from the team with more experience at this level. Everything we can take with us on the road is good.

I am looking forward to making my debut as team leader. We are well prepared, we have a great team and we will make the best of it."
